The Soldier on the Wall, painted on a stable at right angles to the road, belongs to Mapledurwell Farm. It probably dates from the Crimean War. The artist knew not only how to paint the smart colourfull uniform of the time, but also which pigments to use to preserve it for years against all weathers.
