Old
Basing Royal British Legion Band members have won awards at the Basingstoke
Music Festival, in the brass section.
The Legion members entered the festival for the first time with Philip Hawkins (15) winning the - Adams Shield (Grade 6 Trumpet) and the Basing Legion Trio taking the Basingstoke Music Festival cup playing Sound the Trumpets.
The trio of Daniel Hood, Philip Hawkins and Steve Smith won the Brass Trio section playing a bright and lively composition that gives each of the trumpets an equal share of the difficult passages.
Philip, from Chineham, played Transposition Blue, with the judge commenting on his attention to detail.
Russ Jordon from the Band said: “We wanted to support the Basingstoke Music Festival and also show people that we can play a range of music.”
The band is looking for new members playing woodwind and brass instruments and is particularly keen to recruit Trombone, Tuba, French Horn, Saxaphone and Clarinet players. The band practices at Old Basing Royal British Legion on a Sunday morning and if you want more information please contact Russ Jordon on 01256 332753.
