Basing
House in Old Basing has been awarded a grant to develop the site as an
educational resource.
The £1 million award was made to a Hampshire County Council project from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The grant is to be awarded in stages and the first stage is for £53,000 to develop plans for the scheme.
The money will also be used to make Basing House more accessible by building a wooden bridge across the ditches and embankments and, as part of the project, the site will have its name changed to the Basing House Ruins. The centre will be built in converted farmhouses adjacent to the Great Barn. It is hoped the project will be completed in 2010.
