Five in Drive for Life!

Simon Gray, from Old Basing, is one of four from the South West, along with their Land Rover Betty, to visit 15 African countries in nine months in a bid to raise multi-cultural awareness and money for charity.

Departing for South Africa in August 2007, team Africa2Ormond Street (A20) will undertake an exhausting journey through the African continent testing their physical/ mental endurance and technical expertise to the limit.

Starting in South Africa, and relying only on what they can pack into a single Land Rover, A20 will drive along Africa’s East Coast finishing in Tunisia where they will cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy and onward to Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. There A2O will donate money raised to its Children’s Charity and to Student Partnership Worldwide and Hope and Homes for Children - completing a twenty five thousand mile journey taking just under a year.

En route A2O will cross many terrains on a highly emotional journey visiting numerous ‘local’ communities to discover, at first hand, not only the effects of war, famine and disease but also the rich diversity of African culture. Using their website @ www.africa2ormond.co.uk A2O plan to share their experiences with local schools in this country via a series of ‘live’ online question and answer sessions involving school children in Africa to promote a rich cultural exchange.

Six years in the planning the Africa2Ormond Street Expedition is now looking for corporate sponsorship. Private donations can be made at their website @ www.africa2ormond.co.uk.
