Parish Mourns Betty Homes

The Parish of Old Basing and Lychpit is mourning the passing of Betty Holmes.  The following is taken from the Basingstoke Gazette website.

"ONE of the borough’s most famous citizens is being mourned following her death on Wednesday.

Betty Holmes, of Little Basing, was the first woman to receive the Freeman of the Borough. Mrs Holmes was made a MBE by the Queen in 1989 and was a past chairman of Basingstoke Council.

Mrs Holmes was born on October 13, 1917. The 91-year-old had lived in Old Basing since she was five and played an integral part of the community throughout her life."

We understand the funeral will take place on Thursday 30th April at St Mary's Church, Old Basing.

The Basinga will be starting a web page for you to express your condolences and to share with us your memories of Betty.
