A local resident is wondering why the stretch of the Loddon that passes through the village has been allowed to get overgrown. He writes:
Why has the River Loddon at Old Basing been allowed to degenerate into its present unkempt state? Part of the river, opposite the path which leads to the Tithe Barn, is in danger of being choked off by reeds spreading from the opposite bank. As these pictures show, the river has been reduced to little more than a stream at this point. Overall the river seems to be suffering from total neglect, with the foliage on the footpath bank growing out of control. Whoever is responsible for the upkeep should be urged to take action now to preserve what was once a picturesque walk.
