The RBL is 90

Rick Bourne writes:

"It occurred to me that we ought to start telling everyone that 2011 is the 90th Birthday of the RBL.

Old Basing is one of the founder branches too, being formed in 1921 when the Earl Haig fund started.

Whilst events are planned right across the country throughout the year, the weekend of June 11th and 12th is being set aside for the majority and we intend to host something of our own.

No firm plans as yet but watch this space as we intend to make  any function community-orientated .

The object isn't entirely one of fund raising for the Poppy Appeal although that will be an aim, but more to maintain and heighten the profile of the Legion is these times of need for our servicemen and women.

The Legion has been one of the leading charities throughout its history and we wish to celebrate that fact as well as ensuring that we can continue to do all we can for those brave people who serve, and of course their dependants and families."

The Royal British Legions new strapline is,  'Shoulder to shoulder with all who Serve'.
