Grit

Living near Fairthorne Rise as I do, I really felt for the residents during last year’s snowy conditions. Due to the road’s incline, residents experienced real problems getting up and down the hill. We were pleased to see that, during the summer, the residents’ request for a grit bunker had been answered. The bunker was installed and stocked with fresh grit in readiness for inclement future weather.

Well, here we are again. The snow has arrived, and residents are still experiencing difficulties in Fairthorne Rise. The reason for this is that the only visitors to the new grit bunker seem to have been those filling up their buckets, wheely bins and bags with grit to cart away! (Presumably to put on their own drives). One middle aged Lady even drove up in her car, filled some buckets, and drove off!

Obviously, the facility has been provided to enable residents to grit the road, not their drives. I find it extremely short sited of these individuals.  I’m sure that, if the snow persists, there will be no grit left to put on the actual road. The road will become impassable……but all driveways will be spiffing!

I suppose that, if like me, you buy your own grit to clear your driveway, you may be a little aggravated at the prospect of contributing to the cost of this misused facility (through our local taxes).

PB from Old Basing   This is stealing. If residents of Fairthorne Rise, or anywhere else for that matter, see this happening they should politely point this out to the offender and ask them to replace the grit back in the bunker.  If they do not they should report the offender for stealing.  Personally I would be tempted to help them replace the grit if they refuse to do it themselves.
