About the Children's Society

You can click here to visit the Children's Society main web page, but here is a brief overview of what we do.

We have over 90 projects throughout England, working on a one-to-one basis with young people who need our help the most. We also liaise with other organisations including local authorities and agencies to develop our projects and share best practice.

We run over 80 shops throughout England. All of our shops rely totally on goods donated to us which help us continue our work with children and young people. Our shops sell a variety of goods from clothes to computers and we are often able to arrange for collection. We also have a variety of specialist volunteer roles in our shops, including Shop Manager.

Why not cash in your loose change at your local participating Sainsbury's or Asda store – the proceeds come directly to the Children's Society. See if your local Sainsbury's or Asda is participating in Coinstar. Also, for all you booklovers out there; you can shop online for your favourite books whilst raising vital funds for The Children's Society - 15% of your total order will come directly to us.

This year, The Children's Society celebrates its 125th anniversary

This year, The Children's Society celebrates its 125th anniversary. Over the course of the year we will be celebrating everything we have achieved, along with our Church partners, valued supporters and volunteers. And we will be looking to the future.

Times change, but children still need our help

Edward Rudolf founded the Church of England Waifs and Strays' Society in 1881 after two children, who used to attend his Sunday School were found begging for food on the street. The world may be a very different place now, but some things haven't changed and for thousands of children love and understanding are still out of reach.

Listening and evolving

The Children's Society continues to take action whenever children are ignored, overlooked or rejected. The courage to pioneer new work and change with the times has kept us at the forefront of children's issues, and our work has evolved through listening, responding and adapting to the needs of those children facing life's harshest challenges.

Here to stay, for children

Today, our Christian values of compassion, understanding and unconditional support remain as relevant as they were 125 years ago. Through our direct practice and campaigning work, we strive to change the world children live in.

Together with our Church partners, valued supporters and volunteers, we will continue to be there for children for as long as they need us.
