Basingstoke Astronomical Society |
The Basingstoke Astronomical Society (BAS) was founded in Basingstoke,
Hampshire in March of 2004. It's aims are:
* To promote and encourage all aspects of astronomy, for all levels,
from absolute beginners to the more advanced amateur astronomer
* To provide opportunities for learning and the exchange of information
* To provide opportunities for practical observation of the sky, when
conditions allow
* To meet and co-operate with similar societies
* To be a number of like minded people, with a common interest, coming
together to share knowledge and experiences
* To arrange meetings in an interesting environment, with a wide range
of activities related to astronomy
The society holds regular meetings at the Cliddesden Primary School in the
village of Cliddesden, on the outskirts of Basingstoke, where members bring
telescopes and binoculars for the viewing of objects (weather permitting).
The Society currently has around 35 members most of whom gather on the 4th
Thursday in each month for a sociable evening of discussion over
refreshments.
