Ariadne At The Carnival

19th June

At least it didn’t rain for the Carnival last week, although it could have been a bit warmer.  Spencer and I got home at 5pm, and we were quite wind burnt.  I commented that Spencer looked remarkably like a red panda, where his eyes had been shielded by his oversized sunglasses.  Most of the plants selected for sale from the Manor gardens were sold, with the profits going to the Village Show, and the remaining few were returned to the greenhouse for attention later in the week.  Quite a few show schedules were also sold, which was encouraging.

Despite sloping off quite a few times, Spencer didn’t manage to win a bottle on the Old Basing Scout stall, however I understand that quite a bit was raised towards the new Scout Hall.

Oh the shame of it!  I have heard in a round about sort of way that Pablo the rescue cat has bitten a neighbour’s hand.  I of course went straight round to apologise and to check up that the unfortunate neighbour had had a recent tetanus jab.  It turns out that although Pablo didn’t actually draw blood, he is now “felix non gratis” at the house concerned.  It transpires that Pablo was sticking his nose where it wasn’t wanted, and when he was gently removed from the area, he hissed and bit the “hand that stroked him”.  We have had a card from the Barn Animal hospital to say that Pablo is due his annual vaccination, so I will have to ask the vet for some tips on curbing aggressive behaviour.

This was quite a weekend for the Old Basing Royal British Legion Corps of Drums who were performing in a regular “gig” at the Farnham Carnival.  Spencer and I went along to support them, and had a lovely time wandering about amongst the stalls on Castle Hill.  I even managed to win a new hat on the Farnham Lions Tombola stall.
