Ariadne and the spare tyre

17th November

Well, now that the Pantomime is well and truly over, I wonder what we are going to do with ourselves at the Manor on Thursday evenings?  Wasn’t it a good show though?  Marcus and I went to watch it on Sunday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, especially Jeff Owen and Sylvia Dark as Trinny and Susannah.
You might recall that last week, Marcus had suspected Swine ‘flu.  Well I don’t know if he did or he didn’t, but all I can say is that the Tamiflu tablets worked wonders.  He is by no means better and still has a dreadful cough but is well on the mend.  No-one else at the Manor has succumbed yet, so fingers crossed.

Today I was being treated to a trip to the Excel Centre in London as part of a business group that I am involved in .  I caught the 7.29 from the station, and a very kind man gave up his seat for me all the way to Waterloo.  On reflection, I must have looked as though I was in need of it, which is a bit worrying!  I confess that I am not used to travelling on the Tube in the rush hour and the Jubilee Line seemed to be particularly crowded, especially when my hair got caught in the doors as they closed at Canada Water.  Thankfully the train emptied out at Canary Wharf and I was able to extricate myself without any further ado.  On exiting at Customs House, I was surprised to bump into an old friend from Lychpit who I hadn’t spoken to in ages  - small world!  After a day spent listening to lectures and perusing various trade stands I returned to Basingstoke exhausted at 8pm, glad that I didn’t have to do this every day.

Busy day today as Marcus had a University interview at Southampton (not far enough away in my opinion), Violet-Elizabeth had an appointment at the hospital, and they were both in a school music concert in the evening.  All was well until Spencer suggested to Marcus that he drove to the concert to get some more practice in before his test next month.  We managed to get within a mile of our destination, when Marcus accidentally hit the curb and shredded my nearside front tyre.  We left Spencer changing the wheel as we continued on foot to the concert.  Spencer arrived later, just in time but oily and quite wet through.  It was at this point that Marcus informed us that he had left his violin at home.

2 1/2 hours of waiting at the garage and £70 poorer, my tyre was replaced and the spare was back in the boot.
