Ariadne Goes to the Anvil

1st October

Pablo’s recent exploits with the hairdryer seem to have left him none the worse for wear. So much so that he has felt the need to have another swim in the Manor pond.  Perhaps it is because of the lovely Indian summer we have been enjoying, but obviously one dip just wasn’t enough.  I have been informed however, that he has been spotted “begging” at Tesco Express, which is some considerable way away from the Manor.  If you do see him there, please don’t feed him.  I know that he isn’t wearing a collar, and that is because the two we have bought him previously, were lost within 24 hours.  He is micro chipped though.

Spencer and I went to the Mayor’s Charity concert at the Anvil in aid of the Hampshire Air Ambulance and Wessex Cancer Trust. I saw some well known faces from Old Basing and Lychpit in the foyer before the show.  I do so enjoy these events and never cease to marvel at the breadth of talent to be found in our town, and in particular from our very own village. The concert opened with the Old Basing RBL Corps of Drums.  Many comments were made by the people around me about how smart they all looked.  I spotted at least two men from our village in the Basingstoke Male voice choir, and Andrew Frawley’s violin solo was also well received. I particularly enjoyed the ventriloquist who compered the show, who I thought was extremely funny.  Our seats were some way in front of where the Mayor was sitting, but I did manage to turn round and give him a little wave, which Councillor Gurden reciprocated.  I felt like some sort of “groupie” at the end of the show as I waited by the stage door to have a word with the magician to see just how he managed to appear and disappear in a cloud of smoke.  You never know when a skill like that might come in handy. Spencer was more interested in how he managed to push three enormous swords through his assistant, without causing any apparent injury.  I dragged him away quickly before he got any ideas.

Meanwhile Marcus is progressing nicely with his driving lessons.  After only two lessons he has progressed to hill starts and parallel parking- two skills that I fear I have never quite mastered, despite over 30 years of driving.
