Marcus goes quiet

18th July

We joined a dozen or so other people at the Mill Field for the annual Moth evening with Jim and Mike.  Spencer and the children have done this before, and were very enthusiastic about going.  I was amazed at just how many moths found their way to the two light sources that were set up along the path, but even more impressed that Jim and Mike seemed to be able to distinguish between all the different species.  I have to admit that most of them all looked the same to me!

Tonight we spent an enjoyable evening at QMC listening to the Basingstoke Area Youth Orchestra’s summer concert.  We do have some remarkable young musicians in our local area, many of whom started of at St Mary’s Junior School.  If you ever get a chance to hear them then I am sure you would be impressed.

21st July

The day of Marcus’s tonsillectomy.  A rather drastic measure to keep him quiet I know, but it had to be done! Trying to get him out of bed to be at the hospital for 7.30am was a struggle in itself, and Spencer remarked dryly that he might not need any anaesthetic as he was still comatose.  Indeed both of them spent the time waiting for the consultant to do his rounds having a competition about who could do the most yawns.

Went to visit him in the evening and found him tucking happily into tomato soup and an omelette.  They had thoughtfully provided a straw for the soup, as they must have known that Marcus is a messy eater.

22nd July

Marcus is now recovering at home.  Thank you to all who have sent their good wishes.

23rd July

Had a visit from the RSPCA lady this evening to complete the paperwork to formally adopt Pablo.  Pablo behaved beautifully and gave a really good impression, (by purring in all the right places), that he would like to stay at the Manor for good.  I handed over the cheque and he became ours.

Marcus commented that the laptop wasn’t working any more. I said that he would have to wait for Spencer to get home to have a look at it.  Marcus replied that he had an idea as to what was wrong with it, and showed me the power cable which had been completely chewed through.  Pablo meanwhile had made himself scarce.  Spencer wasn’t a happy man when he got home and found out the cost of a replacement cable for the laptop. He said, “never mind chewing electricity cables - I’ll make his fur stand on end!”
