27th June
Spent the entire day visiting cat rescue centres to find a cat to replace Mozart. Went to the Battersea Cats and Dogs Home at Windsor and the Blue Cross and Cat Protection re-homing centres. There were some really lovely unwanted animals looking for homes but unfortunately nothing that fitted our requirements. We will have to keep on searching.
28th June
Attended a wonderful bash at Milestones Museum in aid of the Euskirchen sports twinning weekend. Our very own British Legion Band were in attendance, and were magnificent as usual. You might ask what I had to do with the sporting weekend, and the answer is “not much”, but I did have a ticket and seemed a shame not to waste it. Some Year 5 pupils from St Mary’s Junior School, had been hosting some of the young visitors from Germany, and from what I saw, they were all getting along famously.
30th June
Had a phone call to say that there was a cat we might be interested in,
so made arrangements to see him at the weekend.
Marcus came back tired, sunburnt and bitten to death from his D of E Gold
Expedition to Dartmoor. I don’t believe that the sun cream or the
insect repellent made it out of the kit bag. It seems that he and the rest
of his group have passed, so now I am waiting for my invite to the Palace to
get the award. Looks like I will be needing another new outfit.
Spencer beware!
1st July
Can you believe it? Spencer has announced that he has to attend a week-long conference in connection with his Job of National Importance, in Sweden. I bet you can all guess when this conference will take place? That’s right, 7th September, which means that he will need to fly out on Sunday 6th September, THE VERY DAY OF THE VILLAGE SHOW. I have to tell you that I really did think that he was joking at first, as regular readers will know that he has pulled this stunt before- but no, he is serious. However, I have checked the BA flights to Stockholm, and I reckon that he will just have enough time to stage his 5 pieces of traybake (men and boys class only), before driving straight to Heathrow. So that is a relief. He obviously won’t be around to attend the show itself, but I can always auction off his entry at the end, save bringing it home again.
4th July
Violet-Elizabeth went to the Aldershot Army Show today with her chums from the Basingstoke Area Youth Wind Orchestra. They were playing some music together with the AGC from Worthy Down. She had a great time, and afterwards she had the chance to look around the exhibits, and take part in a few Army exercises. She has asked that we all go next year as she is quite interested in what the Army has to offer.
