Returned home from our Silver Wedding cruise quite exhausted and requiring another holiday! I can’t speak highly enough of the ship, its crew (even better that the Manor staff I have to say), the itinerary and everything else about the holiday. For once Spencer certainly did excel himself.

Thought I would get into the Carnival mood by popping along to the Long Sutton village fete. What they do at Long Sutton that they don’t do at Old Basing, is a dog show. (Now there’s an idea??). So I took along my two dogs for a bit of fun. This year there was an obedience class, best “Heinz” dog- obviously we couldn’t enter that one, a children’s class and another one the details of which I will go into later. Then there is a best in show class (a sort of overall winner), for which you obviously stand a better chance if you have entered all the previous classes. Prince, my gun dog, let me down badly in the obedience class by barking loudly at all the other competitors. We didn’t do too badly in the best groomed and best dressed dog, but Oh! The embarrassment of it all when Rover and I were called out as the winner of the “Owner who looks most like their Dog”. I ask you when have I ever looked like an Old English Sheep Dog?

Moving hurriedly on to the St Marys Schools fayre. Violet – Elizabeth especially wanted to go this year as she hoped to meet up with school chums who had left last year, when they all moved on to other schools. Despite the rather showery weather, the fayre was well attended and hopefully lots of money will be raised for the two schools. Well done to the organisers for all their hard work.
Not content with finishing our day there, Spencer, Violet – Elizabeth and I then moved on to Jackie and Max Deadman’s house. They had kindly opened their splendid garden to the public to raise funds for costumes for the forthcoming Pantomime. The Friends of St Mary’s Church are putting on a production of Sleeping Beauty and the Pirates starring well known Village personalities on 14th and 15th November and this event, which involved a strawberry and cream tea in the garden, was very well attended. I was rather hoping to be approached with the offer of a small part in the panto, but sadly I was disappointed.
