27th March
Today was Violet Elizabeth’s 12th birthday, and so we had a number of girls round for a sleep over. I have to say that they didn’t keep me awake, but they looked a bit bleary eyed in the morning, when several more girls arrived to go bowling at the Bowlplex. A great time was had by all, but Spencer was glad of the peace and quiet when they all left at 7pm.

Got Spencer working on his next major garden project. We need some paving slabs laying at the back of the Manor under the outside tap. Whilst we are also very conscious of saving water and have a number of water butts around the grounds, there is always a need for an outside tap to water some of the plants in the greenhouse, and to hose down the Bentley after it has been out for a spin. Anyway the grass around the outside tap was very shabby, and I decided that paving slabs would improve the whole look of the area. Spencer started this job before Christmas. He removed the turf, and to his surprise, found some massive paving slabs underneath. No wonder the grass didn’t grow very well. This now presented a problem. The concrete slabs were so big that he couldn’t get them up. Hence regular readers will remember that I had to nip to B&Q for Spencer’s Christmas present of a crow bar. This ingenious present has remained firmly in its wrapper till this weekend when I reminded Spencer of its existence and suggested some other uses it could be put to. Reluctantly Spencer got out of the armchair and a least made a start on the job.

Spencer continued with his garden project, and after an unfortunate incident when he left his spectacles, and calculator in the trolley at Wickes whilst buying the sand and gravel for under his paving slabs, the job was finished at last. We all came out to admire his hard work, and I have to say that it was a job well done.
2nd April
Spencer returned home from work with a furious look on his face. Someone had run into the Bentley in the car park and had not owned up to doing it.
3rd April
As I suspected, Spencer is on the case! It transpired that there was a witness, and after a quick e-mail round the office asking for any information, the guilty person came forward and made a full apology. Actually, his BMW had come off worse in the incident, and for Spencer the fact that the person had admitted the incident was enough. Like he said “that is the least he expects from his work colleagues”.
