Moths Amidst the Orchids 8pm
Join Graham Dennis and David Jewsbury to explore the old gravel pit at dusk.
A walk to see the green-winged orchids followed by a moth trapping session
into the night. Headley Gravel Pit, near Kingsclere. Please use
the parking area along Ashford Hill Road (Map ref. SU 516 626) and walk to

Walk at Hosehill Lake Local Nature Reserve 2-4pm
A walk to find returning spring migrants such as tern, reed warblers and
maybe nightingale. Park at rear of Fox and Hounds pub opposite the
lake, RG7 4BE (Map ref. SU 650 698). Contact Mike Sharman on 01189
816104. Suggested donation £2. Please bring binoculars and wear
suitable footwear. Meals and tea available in the pub.

Downland Delights 10am
Explore the abandoned chalk quarry at Old Burghclere with site manager
Graham Dennis. Small blue butterflies and green hairstreaks should be
on the wing. Chalk downland flowers will be growing in profusion
including the fly orchids. Meet at Old Burgclere Lime Pit, north of
Whitchurch (Map ref. SU 469 577). Park at the north end of the
farmyard by the parking sign. Contact Graham on 01189 700155 (evening)

ground is expected to be dry. There are short steep slopes to be negotiated.

Hay Meadow Meander 2pm
A rare opportunity, led by David Jewsbury, to look at the flowers and
grasses of a traditionally managed hay meadow, shortly before it is cut.
Meet at Ron Ward’s Meadow, Tadley (Map ref. SU 601 608). There is
parking for a few cars near the site entrance and more along The Green.

Walk Round Old Down Woodland Park, Basingstoke 2-4pm
A local volunteer will take us round the area of downland to see flowers and
butterflies. Park on roadside in “No Through Road” section of
Kempshott Lane, left at end of Heather Way off A30, RG22 5LY (Map ref. SU
