In most homes today you will find a huge selection of electrical equipment
such as TVs, DVD players, Stereos and Computers to name a few. If these items
are not designed to be left switched on (i.e. fridge, freezers etc), always
switch them off last thing at night, don’t leave Televisions, stereos on
standby.
Do not overload electrical sockets and ensure that all plugs are fitted with the correctly rated fuse.
- When buying electrical garden or DIY tools, look for the British Standard kite mark.
- Check cables and flexes regularly for frays, kinks and bared wires.
- Check plugs to make sure they are firmly wired and not damaged.
- Replace damaged flex or plugs.
- Use a Residual Current Device (RCD) or Power Breaker on all appliances.
- Fully unwind extension leads before use.
- Do not overload plug sockets.
- Isolate electrics before changing
bulbs or cleaning appliances etc.
