Get a Smoke Alarm

Positioning/Siting:

The minimum recommended number of smoke alarms in the home is one per floor.
Smoke alarms should not be situated in or near bathrooms and kitchens as the steam and cooking fumes sets them off.
Where possible, they should always be mounted on the ceiling not the walls as they don’t work so effectively on the walls.
Smoke alarms should be fitted at least 12inches from walls, corners or light fittings.

Testing and Maintenance:

You should test your alarm once a week by pressing and holding the test button until the alarm beeps for approx 2-3 seconds.
Once every six months when vacuuming, use the nozzle to clean in and around the detector to remove dust and insects.
If the smoke alarm beeps intermittently, this means that there is either as fault or the battery needs replacing (Refer to manufacturers manual).
You should change the battery every year. Pick a date that’s easy to remember, i.e. an anniversary or birthday
