From Cllr Sven Godesen – Old Basing & Lychpit Parish Council
Betty arrived in the village at the age of five and was based here for the rest of her life. At all times she was actively involved in her local community and chaired the Parish Council from 1961 until 1990. She also represented the ward at Borough and County Council level. What will always spring to my mind when her name is mentioned is her tremendous sense of humour and the enormous respect that she engendered. The mould which made her seems to have gone missing for the moment, more is the pity. I hope it turns up soon as it is much needed today in public life.
